
THE ODYSSEY hit a boxoffice grand slam Homer run, opening to $124.5M.
The R rated epic from Universal/Syncopy and OPENHEIMER director Christopher Nolan is based on Homer’s 3,000 year old classic poem. It opened at 3,919 theatres ($31,768) and also did $139.6M internationally for a worldwide cume of $264.1M, per Rentrak. BUDGET BUZZ: $250M to produce.
It’s tracking best for first choice with over-25 men (seven points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics are cheering at 95% and audiences love it at 97%.
The fantasy action adventure is a mythic action epic that Nolan shot using brand new IMAX film technology. It’s the first feature film to be completely shot with 70mm IMAX cameras.
ODDESSY’s $uccess will put Universal in the Oscar and other awards races as the leading contender, particularly for Nolan. It’s Hollywood’s elusive commercial/artistic hit.
Domestic ticket sales this weekend were $193.4M, according to Rentrak Head of Marketplace Trends Paul Dergarabedian. That’s up 50.3% from the prior weekend and up 41% vs. this time last year. Rentrak’s year to date tally has 2026 at $5.41B up 10.41% from $4.90B in 2025. The prior weekend had 2026 up 13.21% vs. 2025.

. Sony/Marvel Studios’ “SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY” is opening very wide. It’s tracking best for first choice with under-25 women (22 points over norm).
In the franchise’s latest episode, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (JUST MERCY), it’s four years after “NO WAY HOME” as Tom Holland returns as both Spidey and a forgotten Peter Parker.
