
TOYS ruled the weekend boxoffice again as SUPERGIRL limped in with $38M.
Warner Bros./DC Studios’ SUPERGIRL opened at 3,602 theatres ($10,550), per Rentrak. Hollywood handicappers started out expecting as much as $65M, but going into the weekend slashed that to around $48M, which then got trimmed to $40M mid-weekend. It also did $30M internationally for a worldwide cume of $68M.
It’s tracking best for first choice with over-25 men (eight points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics hate it at 56% while audiences are just 77%. BUDGET BUZZ: $180M+ to produce. Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, TONYA), SUPERGIRL is the dark origin story of Kryptonian Kara Zor-El (Milly Alcock) before she comes to Earth.
Disney/Pixar Animation’s PG comedy adventure TOY STORY 5 held onto first place in weekend two with $70M (-56%) at 4,425 theatres ($15,819), per Rentrak. It’s done $297.2M domestic & $585M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $250M to produce.
Co-directed by McKenna Harris (first feature) & Andrew Stanton (FINDING NEMO), its returning voice talents include Tom Hanks & Tim Allen.
Domestic ticket sales this weekend were $153.5M, according to Rentrak Head of Marketplace Trends Paul Dergarabedian. That’s down 33.7% from the prior weekend and up 18% vs. this time last year. Rentrak’s year to date tally has 2026 at $4.72B up 15.14% from $4.10B in 2025. The prior weekend had 2026 14.21% vs. 2025.
Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Focus Features (Universal’s specialty label)/Blumhouse-Atomic Monster’s R rated horror thriller hit OBSESSION was #3 in weekend seven with $9.8M (-27%) at 2,965 theatres ($3,305). It’s done $233.9M domestic & $370.1M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: about $1M to produce & $14M to acquire.
Paramount/MTV’s R rated JACKASS: BEST AND LAST opened #4 to $8.4M at 2,855 theatres ($2,942), per Rentrak. It also did $1.9M internationally for a worldwide cume of $10.3M.
The Jeff Tremaine directed comedy documentary is tracking below norm for first choice with all demos. Rotten Tomatoes critics are applauding it at 88% and audiences are happy at 85%. BUDGET BUZZ: $10M to produce.
Steven Spielbergs PG-13 sci-fi thriller DISCLOSURE DAY, from Universal/ Amblin Entertainment, was #5 in weekend three, per Rentrak, with $8.1M (-54%) at 3,357 theatres ($2,413). It’s done $94.4M domestic & $193.7M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $115M to produce.
Next weekend (7/1/26) 🐝🐝🐝🐝: Universal/Illumination Entertainment’s PG animated adventure comedy MINIONS & MONSTERS is opening at about 4,000 theatres Wed.,7/1 for July 4th weekend.
In the franchise’s latest episode, directed by Pierre Coffin (MINIONS), the Minions are making a monster movie and must find scary creatures to be in it.
The first MINIONS opened 7/10/15 to $15.7M domestic and went on to gross $336M domestic & $1.2B worldwide.
