PRADA 2 kicked up the boxoffice heat with a $77M launch that got Hollywood’s summer season off and running on the right foot.

Disney/20th Century Studios’ PG-13 dramedy THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 opened at 4,150 theatres ($18,554), per Comscore. Hollywood handicappers had projected a $70-80M domestic launch. It’s also done a terrific $156.6M internationally for a worldwide cume of $233.6M.

P2’s tracking best for first choice with over-25 women (16 points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics are okay at 77%, but paying audiences are happier at 87%. BUDGET BUZZ: about $100M to produce.

The current succe$$ of P2 (women), MICHAEL (men & women), MARIO (families) & MARY (men) shows everybody’s going to the movies — because there’s something special playing for all demos. Sorry Wall Street, theatrical’s not dead.

In P2, directed by David Frankel (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA), Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway & Emily Blunt return (and Stanley Tucci, too!) on the heels of the 2006 original, which did $326.6M worldwide on a budget of $35M.

Lionsgate/Universal/GK Films’ PG-13 bio-drama MICHAEL was #2 in weekend two with $54M (-44.5%) at 3,955 theatres ($13,654), per Comscore. It’s done $183.8M domestic for a worldwide cume of $423.9M.

Domestic ticket sales this weekend were $172.4M, according to Comscore Head of Marketplace Trends Paul Dergarabedian. That’s up 13.2% from the prior weekend and up 18% vs. this time last year. Comscore’s year to date tally has 2026 at $2.79B, up 14.01% from $2.45B in 2025. The prior weekend had 2026 up 14.3% vs. 2025.

Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Universal/Nintendo/Illumination Entertainment’s THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE was #3 with $12.1M (-41%) at 3,419 theatres ($3,539) in weekend five. It’s done $402.7M domestic and $924.2M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $110M to produce.

Amazon MGM Studios’ sci-fi blockbuster PROJECT HAIL MARY was #4 in weekend seven with $8.6M (-33%) at 3,017 theatres ($2,835). It’s done $318.3M domestic and $638.4M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $200M to produce.

Next weekend (5/8/26) 🐝🐝🐝🐝: Paramount/Lightstorm Entertainment’s 3D concert film BILLIE EILISH – HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR is opening at about 2,500 theatres.

Directed by James Cameron & Billie Eilish, it was to have opened in theatres 3/20, but was pushed to 5/8.

. Warner Bros./New Line/Atomic Monster’s R rated fantasy action adventure MORTAL KOMBAT II, which was to have opened 10/24/25, is opening at about 3,500 theatres.

In MK2, Karl Urban as Johnny Cage joins the fight against Shao Kahn, who threatens the Earth realm’s existence.

It’s directed by Simon McQuoid, who directed the franchise’s first episode, MORTAL KOMBAT, which opened 4/23/21 to $23.3M domestic. It went on to do $84.4M worldwide on a budget of $55M.
