
MUMMY pumped fresh blood into the boxoffice, but GALAXY held onto #1.
It was definitely a holdover hits weekend, but New Line/Blumhouse/Atomic Monster’s R rated thriller LEE CRONIN’S THE MUMMY added a helpful $13.5M at 3,304 theatres ($4,090), per Comscore, opening #3. It also did $20.5M internationally for a worldwide cume of $34M.
MUMMY’s tracking for first choice below norm with all demos. Rotten Tomatoes critics are thumbs down at 46%, but audiences are happier at 76%.
In MUMMY, which Cronin (EVIL DEAD RISE) wrote directed and co-produced, a journalist’s young daughter vanishes, turning up eight years later — but as a living nightmare! BUDGET BUZZ: just $22M to produce.
It was Universal/Nintendo/Illumination Entertainment’s THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE that kept the marquee lights on for exhibitors, placing first again with $35M (-48.6%) at 4,170 theatres in weekend three ($8,393). It’s done $355.2M domestic and $747.5M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $110M to produce.
In GALAXY, directed by Aaron Horvath & Michael Jelenic (co-directors of 2023’s THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE), Mario, Luigi & pals go into outer space to stop the evil Bowsers.
The franchise’s first episode opened 4/5/23 to $146.4M and did $1.36B worldwide on a budget of $100M.
Domestic ticket sales this weekend were $90.6M, according to Comscore Head of Marketplace Trends Paul Dergarabedian. That’s down 27.5% from the prior weekend and down 34% vs. this time last year. Comscore’s year to date tally has 2026 at Β $2.39B, up 16.62% from $2.05B in 2025. The prior weekend had 2026 up 22.78% vs. 2025.
Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Amazon MGM Studios’ sci-fi blockbuster PROJECT HAIL MARY was still #2 in weekend five with $20.5M (-15%) at 3,820 theatres ($5,355). It’s done $285.1M domestic and $573.1M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $200M to produce.

A24’s R rated rom-com THE DRAMA, starring Zendaya & Robert Pattinson, was #4 in weekend three with $4.8M (-44%) at 2,629 theatres ($1,842). It’s done $39.7M domestic.
Universal/Will Packer Productions’ PG-13 rom-com YOU, ME & TUSCANY was #5 in weekend two with $3.8M (-51%) at 3,157 theatres ($1,204). It’s done $14.4M domestic. BUDGET BUZZ: $18M to produce.
