March went out roaring like a lion as PROJECT HAIL MARY stayed #1 with $54.5M.

The Amazon MGM Studios’ original PG-13 sci-fi drama — was down just 32% in weekend two at 4,077 theatres ($13,377), per Comscore. It’s done $164.3M domestic and $300.8M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $200M.

MARY’s spectacular succe$$ hammers home how streamers and exhibitors can co-exist in a world where Wall Street mistakenly believes theatrical is doomed.

MARY’s heightened awareness following its theatrical explosion will send  it into a dazzling home galaxy orbit on Prime when the time comes for that. The home audience will want to see it again or catch up with it “for nothing” from their couches. Right now, it’s got amazing theatrical legs. Are you listening Netflix?

Directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (THE LEGO MOVIE co-directors), MARY stars Ryan Gosling. Its screenplay by Drew Goddard (THE MARTIAN) is based on the novel by Andy Weir, who also wrote THE MARTIAN.

Domestic ticket sales were $96.9M, according to Comscore Head of Marketplace Trends Paul Dergarabedian. That’s down 32.3% from the prior weekend, but up 18% vs. this time last year. Comscore’s year to date tally has 2026 at  $1.75B, up 22.9% from $1.42B in 2025. The prior weekend had 2026 up 20.94% vs. 2025.

Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Warner Bros./New Line/Skydance Media’s action comedy thriller THEY WILL KILL YOU opened #3 to $5M at 2,778 theatres ($1,800), per Comscore. It also did $4M internationally  for a worldwide cume of $9M. It’s tracking for first choice below norm with all demos. Rotten Tomatoes critics hate it at 66%, but audiences are happier at 79%. BUDGET BUZZ: $20M to produce.

Directed by Kirill Sokolov (WHY DON’T YOU JUST DIE!), it stars  Zazie Beetz, Patricia Arquette & Tom Felton.

Disney/Pixar Animation’s PG comedy adventure HOPPERS was #2 in weekend four with $12.2M (-31%) at 3,650 theatres ($3,342), per Comscore. It’s done $138.6M domestic & $297.6M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $150M to produce.

Next weekend (4/3/26) 🐝🐝🐝🐝: Universal/Nintendo/Illumination Entertainment’s PG animated comedy adventure THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE is opening for Easter Weekend at about 4,000 theatres. Hollywood handicappers are buzzing about a $125-135M domestic launch.

In GALAXY, directed by Aaron Horvath & Michael Jelenic (co-directors of 2023’s THE SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE), Mario, Luigi and friends are in outer space to stop the evil Bowsers.

The last episode opened 4/5/23 to $146.4M and did $1.36B worldwide on a budget of $100M. The new episode looms as a major moneymaker at the multiplexes! It’s tracking best for first choice with under-25 men (19 points over norm).
