Streamer +  theatres was a win-win this weekend thanks to Amazon MGM Studios’ PROJECT HAIL MARY launch to $80.6M.

The PG-13 sci-fi drama — original IP, not a franchise episode — was soaring at 4,007 theatres ($20,111), per Comscore. That’s just what exhibitors needed and well north of Hollywood handicappers’ initial $60M projections. It also did $60.4M internationally for a worldwide cume of $140.98M. BUDGET BUZZ: $200M.

MARY, directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller (THE LEGO MOVIE co-directors), stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller & the voice of James Ortiz. Its screenplay by Drew Goddard (THE MARTIAN) is based on the novel by Andy Weir, who also wrote THE MARTIAN. MARY’s tracking best for first choice with over-25 men (12 points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics are thumbs way up at 95% and audiences are applauding at 96%.

Also helping to make this a sizzling boxoffice weekend is the Indian crime action thriller DHURANDHAR: THE REVENGE from Bollywood star director Aditya Dhar, who directed DHURANDER (2025). With $20M+ in North American ticket sales, DHURANDER is the top grossing Bollywood film ever in North America and is now streaming worldwide on Netflix..

REVENGE opened #3 via Moviegoers Entertainment to $10.05M at 987 theatres ($10,181), per Comscore, with a domestic cume of $14M and a worldwide cume of $81M. Rotten Tomatoes audiences love it at 96%.

Searchlight/Mythology Entertainment’s R rated comedy thriller READY OR NOT 2: HERE I COME opened #4 to $9.1M at 3,010 theatres ($3,023), per Comscore. It’s directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett, who also co-directed the 2019 original READY OR NOT.

READY 2 stars Samara Weaving, Kathryn Newton & Sarah Michelle Gellar. It’s tracking best and equally well for first choice with under-25 men and over-25 women (each one point over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics are okay at 76%, but audiences are happier at 89%. BUDGET BUZZ: about $20M to produce.

Domestic ticket sales were $141.8M, according to Comscore Head of Marketplace Trends Paul Dergarabedian. That’s up 68.8% from the prior weekend and up 88% vs. this time last year. Comscore’s year to date tally has 2026 at  $1.6B, up 20.94% from $1.32B in 2025. The prior weekend had 2026 up 15.15% vs. 2025.

Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Disney/Pixar Animation’s PG comedy adventure HOPPERS was #2 in weekend three with $18M (-37%) at 3,675 theatres ($4,898), per Comscore. It’s done $120.4M domestic & $242.6M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $150M to produce.

Next weekend (3/27/26) 🐝🐝🐝🐝: Warner Bros./New Line/Skydance Media’s action comedy thriller THEY WILL KILL YOU is opening at about 2,700 theatres. It’s tracking for first choice below norm with all demos.

Directed by Kirill Sokolov (WHY DON’T YOU JUST DIE!), it stars Zazie Beetz, Patricia Arquette & Tom Felton.
