Exhibitors finally had something to shout about this weekend as SCREAM 7 opened to $64.1M.
The Paramount/Spyglass Media R rated thriller opened at 3,540 theatres ($18,107), per Comscore. Hollywood handicappers originally were buzzing about a $40M kick off and then upped it to $60M. It also did $33.1M internationally for a worldwide cume of $97.2M.
It’s the first SCREAM franchise episode to play in IMAX theatres and having it on those premium screens played a big part in making it the biggest opening of the year to date. BUDGET BUZZ: $45M to produce with Paramount & Spyglass each paying half.
The overperforming S7 is a shot in the arm for exhibitors after a bleak winter with mostly blah studio releases and multiple blizzards across the U.S. One hit thriller isn’t enough to make up for so many throwaway weekends, but it does show that moviegoers will still pay to see films they want to see!
S7 is tracking best for first choice equally well with under-25 men & over-25 men (18 points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics hate it at 34%, but audiences are happy at 78%.
Directed by Kevin Williamson (SCREAM 1996’s screenwriter), S7’s stars include Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox & Isabel May.
SCREAM VI opened 3/10/23 to $44.4M and did $166.6M on a budget of $35M.

Comscore’s year to date tally has 2026 at $1.17B, up 9.37% from $1.07B in 2025. The prior weekend had 2026 up 4.89% vs. 2025.
Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Sony’s animated GOAT was #2 in weekend three with $12M (-29%) at 3,707 theatres ($3,237). It’s done $74M domestic & $130.5M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $80M to produce.
Warner Bros./MRC’s WUTHERING HEIGHTS was #3 in weekend three with $7M (-%) at 3,xxx theatres. It’s done $72M domestic & $M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $80M for rights.

Eshleman (TWENTY ONE PILOTS: CAR RADIO) and was shot during a Mexico City show with an audience of about 65,000 fans.
