Now playing below — our HELLO FROM HOLLYWOOD look at Focus Features/Amblin Entertainment’s awards contender bio-drama HAMNET, expanding in theatres 1/16.
HAMNET is the story of Agnes & Will…Shakespeare…and their children (Susanna and twins Judith & Hamnet). Directed by Chloé Zhao, its screenplay set in 16th Century England is by Zhao & Maggie O’Farrell and is based on O’Farrell’s book. It stars Paul Mescal & Jessie Buckley as The Shakespeares and Joe Alwyn & Emily Watson in supporting roles.
After winning the People’s Choice Award (PCA) at the Toronto Film International Festival (TIFF), HAMNET became a leading Oscar contender in multiple categories, especially best picture & directing.
Zhao won the PCA, which is voted by TIFF attendees, in 2020 for NOMADLAND. It went on to win in 2021 the best picture Oscar and best directing for Zhao.
