
RUNNING MAN didn’t outrun NOW YOU SEE IT, as Hollywood handicappers expected, but between them they pumped over $38M into this weekend’s boxoffice.
Lionsgate’s PG-13 crime thriller NOW YOU SEE ME: NOW YOU DON’T out-performed tracking estimates, opening #1 to $21.3M at 3,403 theatres ($6,259), per Comscore. It did $54.2M internationally for a worldwide cume of $75.5M. BUDGET BUZZ: $90M to produce.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer (VENOM), its stars include Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher & Morgan Freeman.
NOW is tracking best for first choice with men under 25 (three points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics hate it at 59%, but audiences are happier at 81%.
The last episode, NOW YOU SEE ME 2, opened nine years ago on 6/10/16 and did $334.9M worldwide on a budget of $90M.
Paramount’s R rated sci-fi action adventure THE RUNNING MAN opened #2 to $17M at 3,534 theatres ($4,810), per Comscore. It did $11.2M internationally for a worldwide cume of $28.2M. BUDGET BUZZ: $110M to produce.
Directed by Edgar Wright (SEAN OF THE DEAD), it stars Glen Powell. RM’s tracking best for first choice with men over 25 (four points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics are thumbs down at 64%, but audiences are an okay 79%.
It’s a reboot of 1987’s THE RUNNING MAN, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. The original opened 38 years ago on 11/13/1987 and did $38.1M on a budget of $27M.
Domestic ticket sales this weekend were $75.6M, according to Comscore Head of Marketplace Trends Paul Dergarabedian. That’s down 9.9% from the prior weekend and up 3% vs. this time last year. Comscore’s year to date tally has 2025 at $7.28B, up 3.09% from $7.06B in 2024. The prior weekend showed 2025 up 3.04% vs. last year. On 6/8, Comscore showed 2025 up by 26.08%.
Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: 20th Century Studios’ PG-13 sci-fi action adventure PREDATOR: BADLANDS was #3 in weekend two with $13M (-67.5%) at 3,725 theatres ($3,490). It’s done $66.3M domestic and $70M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $105M to produce.
Next weekend (11/14) 🐝🐝🐝🐝: Universal/Marc Platt Productions’ PG family fantasy musical WICKED: FOR GOOD is opening at about 4,000 theatres. Its tracking best for first choice with women over 25 (15 points over norm).
Hollywood handicappers started out projecting an opening to $112-115M, but later buzz has it north of that range — maybe $125-135M. Driven by a top-tier marketing blitz by Universal, WFG looms as the answer to exhibitors’ prayers for proof that the movie business can still generate the golden grosses it did pre-COVID.
Directed by Jon M. Chu (WICKED), WFG reteams Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande from the 2024 franchise original. WICKED opened 11/22/24 to $112.5M. It did $473.2M domestic & $756.4M worldwide on a budget of $150M.
