Moviegoing went nowhere this weekend faced with Halloween on Friday and World Series Game 7 on Saturday.

Nonetheless, even in this worst weekend of the year to date somebody must be #1, which in Sunday morning’s estimates was a toss-up between Paramount’s PG-13 romantic comedy REGRETTING YOU and Universal/Blumhouse Productions’ BLACK PHONE 2.

REGRETTING, a PG-13 romantic comedy in weekend two, reported $8.1M (-40.82%) at 3,485 theatres ($2,365), per Comscore. It’s done $27.5M domestic and $50.8M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $30M to produce.

The R rated horror thriller BP2, in its third weekend, reported $8.0M
(-38%) at 3,305 theatres ($2,421), according to Comscore. It’s done $61.5M domestic & $104.7M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $30M to produce.

After October’s grim boxoffice results, exhibitors’ spirits needed lifting, which came from this week’s tracking projections that Universal/Marc Platt Productions’ PG family fantasy musical WICKED: FOR GOOD should  open 11/21/25 to a domestic weekend of $112-115M.

Directed by Jon M. Chu (WICKED), it reteams Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande from the 2024 franchise original. WICKED opened 11/22/24 to $112.5M. It did $473.2M domestic & $756.4M worldwide on a budget of $150M.

Domestic ticket sales this weekend were $49.7M, according to Comscore Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian. That’s down 36.1% from the prior weekend and down 33% vs. this time last year. Comscore’s year to date tally has 2025 at $7.06B, up 2.93% from $6.86B in 2024. The prior weekend showed 2025 up 3.37% vs. last year. On 6/8, however, Comscore showed 2025 up by 26.08%.

Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Sony/Crunchyroll’s second weekend of its R rated anime action adventure CHAINSAW MAN – THE MOVIE: REZE ARC was third with $6M (-67%) at 3,003 theatres ($1,998). Directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara (BLACK CLOVER), it’s done $30.8M domestic.

Focus Features’ R rated sci-fi comedy awards contender BUGONIA was #4 in its second wide weekend with $4.8M at 2,043 theatres ($2,349).  Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos (THE LOBSTER), it stars Emma Stone.

Next weekend (11/7) 🐝🐝🐝🐝: 20th Century Studios’ PG-13 sci-fi action adventure PREDATOR: BADLANDS is opening at about 3,600 theatres and is the weekend’s only wide opening from a major studio (a Disney label). Hollywood handicappers are buzzing about a $30-40M domestic launch.

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (PREY), it stars Elle Fanning & Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi. In BADLANDS, a young Predator teams up with a most unlikely ally while pursuing the ultimate enemy.

The last franchise episode, THE PREDATOR, from 20th Century-Fox & Davis Entertainment, opened 9/14/18 and did $160.5M worldwide on a budget of $88M.
