
Warner Bros. won not just the weekend boxoffice BATTLE, but the ongoing war, too, by being the first studio to hit $4B in 2025 global grosses.
The R rated action crime drama ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER, from WB/Ghoulardi Film, opened to $22.4M at 3,634 theatres ($6,164), per Comscore. Written & directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (THERE WILL BE BLOOD), it stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn & Benicio del Toro.
BATTLE also did $26.1M internationally for a worldwide cume of $48.5M. It’s tracking best for first choice with over-25 men (equal to norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics are thumbs up at 96% and audiences are happy at 85%. BUDGET BUZZ: $130-140M to produce.
Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s G rated comedy adventure GABBY’S DOLLHOUSE: THE MOVIE opened #2 to $13.7M at 3,500 theatres ($3,914). It did $5.5M internationally for a worldwide cume of $19.2M.
Directed by Ryan Crego (first feature), it’s tracking for first choice below norm with all demos. Rotten Tomatoes critics are happy at 80% and audiences are cheering at 95%. BUDGET BUZZ: a modest $32M to produce.
Lionsgate/Fifth Element Productions’ R rated horror mystery THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 2, directed by Renny Harlin (DEVIL’S PASS), debuted #5 to $5.9M at 2,690 theatres ($2,193). It’s tracking for first choice below norm with all demos. Rotten Tomatoes critics hate it at 18% while audiences are a grim 58%. BUDGET BUZZ: $8.5M to produce.
Domestic ticket sales this weekend were $xx75.9M, according to Comscore Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian. That’s down 0.5% from the prior weekend and down 20% vs. this time last year. Comscore’s year to date tally has 2025 at $6.56B, up 4.21% from $6.29B in 2024. The prior weekend showed 2025 up 4.38% vs. last year. As of 6/8, 2025 was up 26.08%, per Comscore.
Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Sony/Crunchyroll’s DEMON SLAYER: KIMETSU NO YAIBA INFINITY CASTLE was #3 in weekend three with $7.1M (-59%) at 2,984 theatres ($2,379). It’s done $118.2M domestic.
Next weekend (10/3) 🐝🐝🐝🐝: The reissue of James Cameron’s 2022 PG-13 action adventure fantasy AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER, from 20th Century Studios/Lightstorm Entertainment, is playing a special one-week theatrical run in 3D at about 2,000 theatres.
Directed by Cameron (AVATAR), its stars include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña & Sigourney Weaver. WATER opened 12/16/22 and did $684.1M domestic & $2.32B worldwide on a budget of $350M.
The R rated action crime drama PLAY DIRTY, from Amazon MGM Studios, will be streaming on Prime. Directed by Shane Black (KISS KISS BANG BANG), it stars Mark Walberg, LaKeith Stanfield & Rosa Salazar.
AMC Theatres will open TAYLOR SWIFT: THE OFFICIAL RELEASE PARTY OF A SHOWGIRL for one weekend only at about 3,500 locations, including other circuits. The 89 minute film looks at the making of Swift’s record “The Life of a Showgirl.”
