The sci-fi crime comedy world premiered 8/27 in competition at the Venice Film Festival to a nearly seven minute ovation in the Sala Grande. Emma Stone heads a cast that also includes: Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias & Alicia Silverstone.
In BUGONIA, two conspiracy obsessed young men kidnap a high-powered CEO (Stone), thinking she’s an alien planning to destroy Earth.
Lanthimos was an Oscar nominee for POOR THINGS in 2024 for best picture & directing. POOR won the Golden Lion at Venice in 2023. Stone won the lead actress Oscar for POOR.
Lanthimos also was Oscar nominated in 2019 for THE FAVOURITE for best picture and directing. Stone received a supporting actress Oscar nod for FAVOURITE. In 2017 she won the lead actress Oscar for LA LA LAND and in 2015 she was a supporting actress Oscar nominee for BIRDMAN.
In 2017, Lanthimos was a best original screenplay Oscar nominee for THE LOBSTER. He was a best screenplay (Golden Osella) winner at Venice in 2011 for ALPEIS.
