Exhibitors sang along to KPOP this weekend, probably wishing Netflix would play it for more than just two days.

KPOP DEMON HUNTERS ran as a singalong event Saturday & Sunday at 1,700 theatres and did about $18M ($10,588), per industry estimates, but not per Comscore since Netflix refused (as usual) to release its numbers.

That $18M was enough to keep WEAPONS out of first place, although that’s where it is on Comscore’s official chart. KPOP would have done better yet had it also played AMC houses, where movies that are streaming remain unwelcome.

The PG action adventure was produced by Sony Pictures Animation and sold to Netflix, where it’s been a huge hit for about two months. BUDGET BUZZ: $100M to produce.

Netflix has called cinemas “outdated,” but by putting KPOP into the multiplexes it just proved that although subscribers have streamed it, they still want to see it on the biggest possible screens.

As for HONEY DON’T, the buzz was it wouldn’t — and it didn’t. The Focus Features/Working title Films’ R rated comedy mystery opened #7, per Comscore, to $3M at 1,317 theatres ($2,278). BUDGET BUZZ: $20M to produce.

Directed by Ethan Coen (THE BALLAD OF BUSTER SCRUGGS), it stars Margaret Qualley & Chris Evans. HONEY’s tracking below norm for first choice with all demos. Rotten Tomatoes critics hate it at 44% and so do audiences at 45%.

As exhibs say good riddance to August, they’re holding their breath until New Line/Atomic Monster’s R rated horror thriller THE CONJURING: THE LAST RITES kicks off 9/5 with a broad IMAX footprint.

Domestic ticket sales this weekend were $60.1M (but not including KPOP), according to Comscore Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian. That’s down 36.7% from the prior weekend and down 35% vs. this time last year. Comscore’s year to date tally has 2025 at $5.88B, up 5.07% from $5.60B in 2024. The prior weekend showed 2025 up 6.44% vs. last year. Back on 6/8, 2025 was up 26.08%, per Comscore.

Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Warner Bros./New Line Cinema’s WEAPONS was #1, per Comscore, in weekend three with $15.6M (-36.21%) at 3,631 theatres ($4,296). It’s done $115.9M domestically & $199.4M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $38M to pick up.

Next weekend (8/29) 🐝🐝🐝🐝: Searchlight Pictures/Adler Entertainment’s  R rated comedy THE ROSES, a remake of the 1989 hit THE WAR OF THE ROSES, is opening at about 2,500 theatres.

Directed by Jay Roach (TRUMBO), its stars include Olivia Colman & Benedict Cumberbatch. It’s tracking below norm for first choice with all demos.

Sony Pictures’ R rated crime comedy thriller CAUGHT STEALING is opening at about 3,000 theatres.

Directed by Darren Aronofsky (THE FOUNTAIN), it stars Austin Butler & Regina King. It’s tracking below norm for first choice with all demos.
