The Dog Days of Summer are here — as we see at this weekend’s boxoffice!

Disney/Marvel’s THE FANTASTIC FOUR: FIRST STEPS didn’t have legs in weekend two, plunging 66% to $40M at 4,125 theatres ($9,697), per Comscore. Hollywood handicappers expected $45M. It’s done $198.4M domestic & $368.7M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $200M to produce.

Domestic ticket sales this weekend were $123.7M, according to Comscore Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian. That’s down 33.6% from the prior weekend and down 28% vs. this time last year. Comscore’s year to date tally has 2025 at $5.43B, up 9.48% from $4.96B in 2024. The prior weekend showed 2025 up 12.32% vs. last year. On 6/8, however, 2025 was up 26.08%, per Comscore.

Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Universal/Dreamworks Animation’s PG rated action adventure THE BAD GUYS 2 opened to $22.2M at 3,852 theatres ($5,763), per Comscore. It’s done $44.5M worldwide.  BUDGET BUZZ: $80M to produce.

Directed by Pierre Perifel (THE BAD GUYS), it’s tracking best for first choice with women under 25 (one point over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics are fans at 86% and audiences are applauding loudly at 95%. The franchise’s original episode, THE BAD GUYS, opened 4/22/2022 and did $97.5M domestic & $250.4M worldwide on a production budget of $70M.

Paramount/Fuzzy Door Productions’ action crime comedy franchise reboot THE NAKED GUN kicked off #3 to $17M, per Comscore, at 3,344 theatres ($5,084). It stars Liam Neeson and has a worldwide cume of $28.5M.

GUN, which Akiva Schaffer (SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE series) directed, also stars Pamela Anderson. it’s tracking best for first choice with men over 25 (five points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics are happy at 90%, but audiences are a so-so 77%. BUDGET BUZZ: $42M to produce.

The series’ first episode, THE NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD!, opened 12/2/1988 and did $78.8M worldwide on a production budget of $12M.

Next weekend (8/8) 🐝🐝🐝🐝: Disney/Burr! Productions’ PG comedy fantasy FREAKIER FRIDAY is opening at about 3,800 theatres. It stars Jamie Lee Curtis & Lindsay Lohan, returning years after their FREAKY FRIDAY identity crisis to navigate new challenges.

Directed by Nisha Ganatra (LATE NIGHT), FF’s tracking best for first choice with women over 25 (15 points over norm). The franchise’s original episode, FREAKY FRIDAY, opened 8/6/2003 and did $110.2M domestic & $160.8M worldwide on a production budget of $20M.

Warner Bros./New Line Cinema’s R rated horror mystery WEAPONS, starring Josh Brolin, Julia Garner & Alden Ehrenreich, is opening at about 3,200 theatres.

Directed by Zach Cregger (BARBARIAN), it’s tracking best for first choice with women over 25 (three points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics are loving it now at 100%, based on just 17 reviews.
