. Paramount Pictures’ PG comedy adventure SMURFS will be bringing families with popcorn guzzling munchkins to about 3,200 theatres. This time around, Papa Smurf is kidnapped by evil wizards and the Smurfs must save him — which means entering the real world!
Directed by Chris Miller (SHREK THE THIRD), it stars Rihanna as the voice of Smurfette. It’s tracking best for first choice with women over 25 — that’s moms with kids — (equal to norm).
The franchise’s last episode, THE SMURFS, opened 7/29/2011 and did $142.6M domestic & $563.9M worldwide on a production budget of $110M.
. Sony/Original Film’s R rated thriller I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER will be a magnet for horror fans at about 3,000 theatres. In this franchise reboot, five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car crash and then cover up their involvement. Later their past comes back to haunt them — because someone knows what they did last summer.
Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER), its stars include franchise veterans Jennifer Love Hewitt & Freddie Prinze Jr. And new to the cast is Madelyn Cline (GLASS ONION). It’s tracking best for first choice with women under 25 (five points over norm).
The franchise’s original episode opened 10/17/1997 and did $72.6M domestic & $125.6M worldwide on a production budget of $17M.
