The spring boxoffice was in full bloom this weekend as SINNERS stayed #1 with $45M, STAR WARS fans spent $25M on SITH, ACCOUNTANT 2’s numbers added up to $24.5M & MINECRAFT mopped up nearly $23M.

Hollywood’s extended Summer Season starts next weekend (5/2) with Disney/Marvel’s THUNDERBOLTS* and there’s a confident new vibe at the multiplexes. After a turbulent year-to-date of depressing boxoffice results, exhibitors now see that moviegoers haven’t deserted cinemas. If Hollywood keeps delivering want-to-see movies, audiences will show up and pay.

Domestic ticket sales this weekend were $146.5M, according to Comscore Senior Media Analyst Paul Dergarabedian. That’s up 6.6% from the prior weekend and up 123% vs. this time last year. Comscore’s year to date tally has 2025 at $2.28B, up 11.04% from $2.05M in 2024. The prior weekend showed 2025 up by 5.33% vs. last year.

Meanwhile, back at the multiplexes: Warner Bros./Proximity Media’s  SINNERS was #1 again in weekend two with $45M — off just 6.26% — at 3,347 theatres ($13,445), per Comscore. Written & directed by Ryan Coogler (BLACK PANTHER), it stars Michael B. Jordan. It’s done $122.5M domestic and $161.6M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $90M to produce.

Disney’s 20th anniversary reissue of Lucasfilm’s STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH opened #2 to an overperforming $25.2M at 2,775 theatres ($9,081). Rotten Tomatoes critics are an okay 79%, but audiences are a blah 66%.

Warner Bros./51 Entertainment’s R rated action crime drama THE ACCOUNTANT 2 opened #3 to $24.49M ($6,785) at 3,610 theatres per Comscore. Hollywood handicappers were figuring $23M. BUDGET BUZZ: $80M to produce.

Directed by Gavin O’Connor (THE ACCOUNTANT), TA2 stars Ben Affleck. It’s tracking best for first choice with men over 25 (three points over norm). Rotten Tomatoes critics are good at 78% while paying audiences are cheering at 92%.

Warner Bros./Legendary Entertainment’s A MINECRAFT MOVIE was #4 in weekend three with $22.7M (-44%) at 3,841 theatres ($5,915). It’s done $380M domestic and $436.6M worldwide. BUDGET BUZZ: $150M to produce (with about $37.5M from Legendary).

Sony/Screen Gems R rated horror thriller UNTIL DAWN, directed by David F. Sandberg (ANNABELLE: CREATION), opened #5 to $8M at 3,055 theatres ($2,624). It’s tracking best for first choice with men under 25 (two points over norm). BUDGET BUZZ: $15M to produce. Rotten Tomatoes critics hate it at 53% and audiences don’t care at 70%.

Next weekend (5/2): Disney/Marvel’s PG-13 action adventure THUNDERBOLTS* will open at about 4,200 theatres and faces no new major studio competition. It’s tracking best for first choice with over-25 men (six points over norm) and next best with men under 25 (three points over norm). Directed by Jake Schreier (BEEF), it stars Florence Pugh as the ruthless assassin Yelena Belova.
